The 2016 World Archery Indoor Championships are in the books and New Mexico archer Cassidy Cox brought home the silver medal in the Compound Junior Woman’s division after getting into the Gold Medal round with Lucia Chavarria from Mexico
After traveling to Michigan in December to qualify for the trip at the World indoor Championship team trials Cassidy was excited to be representing USA in Turkey. She returned to Arizona and would compete in the USA Archery Indoor Nationals the week before going to Turkey
” I didn’t shoot my highest scores at the indoor nationals she explained, and I wasn’t feeling very confident but I spent the following week working on my form and my equipment and making sure it was as strong as could be. Once I shot on official practice day, everything seemed to be working which raised my confidence by a ton.
Cassidy is no stranger to events like this, the first time she tried out for usat was in 2014, and made the first spot on the 2015 Cadet Female Compound usat team. In 2015, She tried out for usat again and made the second spot on the 2016 Junior Female Compound usat team. Also, in 2015, she made the Cadet Female Compound team and shot in the 2015 World Archery Youth Championships in Yankton, SD.
Despite the unrest in the area in and around Ankara Turkey Cassidy told us she wasn’t real that concerned about going to the event. She would fly from Albuquerque to Houston, then from Houston to Munich, Germany and she met up with the team there. From Munich they flew together to Ankara.
After winning the Silver we asked Cassidy how it went “I had a rough time in the second end because every time I drew the bow the arrow would fall off the rest, and I couldn’t get the bow drawn or arrow off in time. Although I didn’t win I’m happy with how I recovered from that.
